PANCREATIC CANCER

 

One of the most serious of all cancers. It develops when malignant cells form in the tissues of your pancreas — a large organ that lies horizontally behind the lower part of your stomach. Your pancreas secretes enzymes that aid digestion and hormones that help regulate the metabolism of carbohydrates.

Causes:

Symptoms:

  • Pain in the upper abdomen or upper back
  • Yellow skin and eyes, and dark urine from jaundice
  • Weakness
  • Loss of appetite
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Weight loss

Treatments:

  •  Surgery to remove cancer of the pancreas 

  •   Surgery to control symptoms  

  •   'Stents' to relieve jaundice  

  •  Radiotherapy for cancer of the pancreas  

  • Chemotherapy for cancer of the pancreas
