Oropharynx
cancer is a disease in which cancer cells are
found in the tissues of the oropharynx.
Oropharyngeal cancer develops in the part of the
throat just behind the mouth. It includes
the soft palate (the back of the mouth), the base
of the tongue, and the tonsils.
Causes:

Sex

Smoking and drinking alcohol

Chewing tobacco or betel quid with tobacco

Diet
-
Having a weakened immune system
-
Exposure to some
chemicals and Sunlight
Symptoms:
- Unusual bleeding or numbness in the mouth
- Difficulty moving the jaw
- Dysphagia
- Weight loss
- Speech problems
- A
lump in the neck
- Loose or numb teeth
- Lump or thickening on the lip, or in the mouth or throat
Treatments:
1.
Surgical excision recommended for benign cancers
2. Chemotherapy
3. Radiotherapy recommended for oral squamous cell carcinomas and the prognosis is good.
4. Hyperthermia - for malignant cancers.
