AUTISM



Children suffering from autism appear to live in a world of their own. While autistic adults show a stubborn resistance to change. They are always absorbed in self-centered mental activity, exhibiting withdrawal from reality. Autism occurs in about 2-4 persons in every 10,000.

Symptoms:

1.  Social behavior development is delayed.

2.  Withdrawal from the family and other people. Usually plays alone.  

3.  Shows indifference to other people’s communication attempts.  

4.      Dislike for cuddling.  

5.      Lack or absence of eye contact.

6.      In most cases, there is mental retardation. While in some cases, they show extraordinary talents or brilliance in a specific field.

Complications:

1.      May injure oneself due to lack or absence of response to painful stimuli.

Causes:

1.      Genetic predisposition.

2.      Failure of the section of the brain that processes stimuli

Exact cause has not yet been established but Autism may be attributed to the above-mentioned causes.
