MIGRAINE



A very common and painful headache that is felt on one side of the head. It affects mostly women especially before menstruation and decrease of attack is noted after menopause.

Symptoms of common migraine:

1.      Felt on one side of the head and the pain is throbbing in intensity. It is exacerbated by light or noise.

2.      Nausea.

3.      Vomiting.

Symptoms of classic migraine:  

1.   20 minutes before the attack, an aura is felt like flashing or zigzagging light, enlarging blind spot and strange noise or smells.

2.   The onset is more abrupt compared with the common migraine.

3.   Light sensitive.

4.   Very rare, paralysis on one side of the body.

Causes:

     1.      Stress.

     2.      Certain food and beverages.

     3.      Injury to the head.

     4.      Sensory stimulation.

     5.      Overexertion.

     6.      Hunger.

     7.      Hormonal imbalance and oral contraceptives.

Remedies:

     1.      Try to rest or sleep in a dark quiet room.

     2.      Apply icepack to the affected area.

     3.      Take a cold shower.

     4.      Take a simple painkiller.
