OSTEOPOROSIS


A common condition for people over 60 years of age and women after menopause. Bones become thin and brittle because the ovaries stopped producing estrogen which aids in the absorption of calcium.

Symptoms:

1.      Weak bones which fracture easily.

2.      Hunchback.

3.      Back pains.

 Complications:

1.      Slow healing of fractures.   

     2.      Disfigurement.

3.      Impaired movement.

Causes:

1.      Lack of calcium.

2.      Estrogen deficiency in women.

3.      Prolonged treatment with corticosteroids.

4.      Lack of exercise.

5.      Too much alcohol and smoking.

Eat calcium rich food and take dietary supplements. Exercise regularly, avoid alcohol and quit smoking. Consult your doctor if you suspect osteoporosis.
