RINGWORM


A collective name for several fungal skin infections. It presents a ring-shaped patch, which is usually scaly and reddish in color. This is highly catching and can appear anywhere in the body. Most often found at the groin area, nails and feet. Ringworm on the scalp is often mistaken for dandruff.

Symptoms:

1.   Have a very prominent edge showing the ring-shaped patch.

2.   Very itchy.  

3.   At the scalp, it shows round bald patches.  

4.      At the nails, it shows crumbly, discolored and thickened nails.

Causes:

1.      Fungal disease of the skin.

Remedies:

1.      Use anti-fungal cream, powder or shampoo.

2.      Avoid scratching the infected area.

3.      Consult a doctor.
