SORE THROAT


The acute inflammation of the throat causes hoarseness and a rough raw sensation when swallowing. It may precedes the onset of upper respiratory tract infection by bacteria/virus.

Symptoms:

1.      Pain, rough dry feeling when swallowing.

2.      Hoarseness.

3.      Redness at the back of the throat.  

4.      Swollen tonsils.  

5.      Loss of appetite.

6.      Fever.

Complications:

1.      Throat abscess.

2.      Rheumatic heart disease.

3.      Kidney damage.

Causes:

1.      Bacterial or viral infection of the throat, resulting in pharyngitis.

2.      Allergy.

3.      Irritation.



What you can do:

1.      Stop smoking.

2.      Speak as little as possible.

3.      Suck antiseptic lozenges.

4.      Drink plenty of fluids.

5.      Gargle with warm salt water.

6.      Take simple painkillers.
