CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR)

This is a procedure used when the victim is not breathing no pulse is perceived.

1.   For proper administration of CPR, formal training is needed.  If nobody is qualified and the situation calls for it, you have to apply it yourself.

2.   Check for heartbeat or pulse.  If there is no heartbeat or pulse administer CPR.

3.   Lay the person on a hard surface.  

    4.   Place your middle and index finger to where the lower ribs and breastbone meet.  

5.   Place the heel of your hand on top of the other hand and lock the fingers.

6.   With your arms straight, lean forward and press the breastbone 4-5 cm and release quickly.  Repeat at the rate of 80 times per minute.

7.   For every 15 compressions, do mouth–to-mouth resuscitation.

8.   Continue until there’s a heartbeat or help arrives.

9.   For a child, use only one hand and press at the rate of 100 times per minute at 3cm. 1 mouth-to mouth after 5 compressions.

10.  For an infant, use only 2 fingers at 2 cm.  Combine with mouth-to-mouth giving 5 compressions to 1 breath.
