ELECTRIC SHOCK

Electric shock occurs when a person touches frayed wires or faulty electrical appliances with wet hands or while standing on a wet ground.

1.  You should first cut off the electric current by switching off the power mains.

2.  If this is not possible, push the person away from the source or point of contact. Use wooden or rubber coated object in doing this and make sure you stand on an insulating material.

3.  If the victim is breathing put him into recovery position.

4.  If the victim is not breathing but has a pulse, do mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

5.  If he is not breathing and no pulse, do cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

6.  Make sure that you distance yourself from the victim if the shock is caused by high voltage. A safe distance is 18 meters.

7.  Call for medical help.
