WATER HEALTH NUTRITION BREAD
AMAZING, NUTRITIOUS BREAD

by: Leony R. Garcia

"Give us this day our daily bread," could be the famous line in our everyday prayer. In the olden time, it could be literally asking for bread since bread used to be the daily table fare and sustenance. Remember, our Lord fed 5,000 people who listened and followed Him in the biblical times with bread and fish.

It's a good thing that in the recent years, the fad for healthy living has become the in thing including in the production of bread.

Walter Bread has become a driving force in the bread industry for introducing a line of healthy bread two years ago. Definitely the pioneer in this category in the country, Walter Bread revolutionized the industry by coming out with Walter Health Nutrition breads that are low in fat, high in fiber and cholesterol and transfat free.

"Walter Health Nutrition breads are a must have items if these establishments really care for the wellness of their customers," says the man behind Walter Bread, Walter Co, a businessman whose family has been in the bread industry for more than 25 years now. A health buff himself, Co has since then worked with nutrition experts and used only the best ingredients. Today, his company has the most extensive line of healthy bread available locally and is committed to coming out with even more delicious healthy bread products with above nutrition value and great taste -- all aimed at satisfying the quality conscious Pinoy.

Part of its commitment of continuous research and development, Walter Bread is currently collaborating with Joan Sumpio, the pride of University of Sto. Tomas Hospital being its head nutrionist. Below is Health News interview with Sumpio.

Health News (HN): How long have you been using/recommending Walter Bread?

Joan Sumpio (JS): If my memory is accurate, I have been personally using Walter bread since 2006.

HN: Why have you chosen Walter Bread over the other popular brands in the market?

(JS): Foremost, I don't simply buy food products because of their popular brand names. I shifted to Walter because I got turned off with a brand that used a name that doesn't really stand for what it has or what it has to give to the consumer. I continue to admire Walter breads because it does not just keep providing variety of breads but more importantly, it focuses on emphasizing the health benefits from the nutrients in their products.

HN: As a nutritionist, what can you say about today's lifestyle and food consumption.

JS: As we are all aware of, today's lifestyle is getting to be more complicated and more stressful. This is so because of the many demands for most of us to be working twice as much compared at least a decade ago. Wrong food consumptions coupled with unhealthy food habit are taking its toll on our health. Diabetes, cancer, obesity cardiovascular diseases are still on the rise and all these are in one way or another are related to our food intake. From the 2003 National Nutrition and Health Survey people with elevated bad cholesterol and fasting blood sugar levels increased. Still from the same survey, there has been an overall improvement in caloric intake of children (meaning we were able to decrease the number of undernourished children) but the survey has its downside when the number of obese/overweight children also rose in number.

HN: What is your stand regarding fast foods-restaurants, instant meal, etc.

JS: We always need fast foods (as they are supposed to serve as fast enough to beat our lunch breaks or snack time), but may I suggest that people should better decide beforehand what they really want to indulge into these fast food establishments. That's because when we are in a hurry to decide on what to eat, that is when we usually forget about what is good but simply thinks of anything as pantawid gutom at the risk of taking loads of unnecessary fats, carbohydrates, and calories, Inside fast food restaurants, we can also have in fact we can always have healthier choices. We can demand salads with lesser fatty dressings if we want, we can demand for sauces to be on the side instead on top of your meat dish. We can demand for lower sodium content in our food (it is easy they can wash off a little of the marinade or put into half the condiments needed).

The amicable nutrition expert recommends to our readers to eat a sandwich or two of Walter health bread instead of fast food as she has been doing to her patients, including doctors and staff at the hospital she works for.

To give us a clear example of the benefit of Walter bread, let us scrutinize its ingredients: The recommended daily requirement of fiber is 25g per day. Walter weight control bread has 4g of fiber per serving. Therefore, eating two sandwiches a day of Walter bread, one gets 1/3 of the recommended daily intake.
