Albay's lands are ripe with crops
such as coconut, rice, abaca and
corn, while its deposits provide
minerals like gold, copper, iron
and mercury. Fishing grounds
produce fishes like scad, tuna,
siganid, anchovy and mackarel.
Moreover, Albaynons are skilled
in handicraft, and are known for
products such as sinamay and
pinolpog.
The Bicolandia taste leans on
the spicy. The region's most
famous dish is the Bicol express,
which is made from pork, shrimp,
gata and hot siling labuyo. Other
notable dishes from the region
are laing, ginataang langka,
cosido, balaw, natong, candingga
and pinangat. On the sweeter
side, Bicol is also famous for
pili nuts, which is made into
various delicacies.
The best known attraction of
Albay is the Mayon Volcano,
located in its capital, Legaspi
City. One of the most active
volcanoes in the country, it is
renowned for its perfectly
symmetrical cone. As a testament
to its violent nature, the
remains of Cagsawa Church is
still visited regularly.
Some must-visits include
historical sites such as the
Battle of Legazpi Trylon, Jose
Ignacio Paua Monument, Old Albay,
Simeon Ola Monument, Guinobatan
and the Andres Bonifacio monument
in Sto. Domingo. The province is
also home to old churches like
Our Lady of the Gate in Daraga,
St. John the Baptist in Camalig
and St. Rose in Bacacay.
Visitors can also visit other
attractions, including
Hoyop-Hoyopan, Calibidongan and
Pototan Caves, the surfing beach
at Sto. Domingo, Busay Falls and
the Tiwi Hot Springs. In
addition, San Miguel and
Rapu-Rapu Islands are among the
lesser known, but unspoiled dives
sites in the country.
Other things to look out for
in Albay are its festivities. The
Karangahan Festival held in May
is celebrates wealth brought
about by a good harvest. The
Katalingkasan Festival, held
every July 21-25, is celebrated
in conjunction with the town
fiesta of Libon. Meanwhile, the

activity participated in by
