The island is made up of three villages or barangays: Yapak, Balabag and Manoc-Manoc. Barangay Yapak is located in the north and has hilly elevations. Among the beaches in Yapak are Ilig-Iligan, Balinghai and Puka Shell. Barangay Balabag is the central part of the island where the popular White Beach is located. The quiet place of Barangay Manoc-Manoc is in the south where half of the population lives.
During the mid 80's, Boracay was a hidden resort known to a few sea lovers. Now it is a famous attraction to many tourists around the world. It is blessed with the perfect description of a tropical paradise - powdery white sand beaches dotted with coconut trees dancing in gentle sea breezes and crystal blue waters endowed with rich coral and marine life.
