Camiguin
is a pear-shaped volcanic island,
10 km north standpoint of Misamis
Oriental and 54 km southeast of
Bohol.
Isolated from Mindanao
peninsula and enclosed by
Gingoong and Macajalar Bays on
the south and Bohol Sea on the
north. Its capital is Mambajao.
Its
name was originated from the word
Kamagong,
a tree of the ebony family.
Manobo's were the original
residents of the island coming
from Surigao.
Before Magellan and de
Legazpi’s expeditions in the
Philippines, the province was
already trading with the
merchants of neighboring Asian
countries.
The
place is especially known for its
sweet lanzones, seven active
volcanoes, springs and
waterfalls. The people of
Camiguin celebrate Lanzones
Festival every month of
October…a two-day ground
festival of agri-cottage industry
products in exhibit, barangay
beautification, indigenous sports
and a grand parade of the golden
fruit lanzones.
Camiguin
insular is regarded as the
Philippines’ equality of the
Garden of Eden, dazzling with
