Pink Sand Beach, Great Santa Cruz Island, Zamboanga City

Zamboanga City is blessed with a splendor of beaches, and perhaps the best known of these is the Pink Sand Beach of Great Santa Cruz Island, whose pinkish sand is a result of pulverized rare red Organ-pipe Coral mixed in with the white sand.  The beautiful pink sand is a rarity, one of the very few found in the entire world, and this beach stretches over three miles encircling the island.

The clear waters are inviting to swimmers and divers, and the shores a fine spot to lounge.  Covered huts ideal for picnics can be found around Great Santa Cruz Island, complete with adequate bathroom facilities.  There is also a lagoon near which is a small Badjao village and its burial ground.

Great Santa Cruz Island is a mere 15 to 20 minutes away from Zamboanga City by motorized boat, and trips may be arranged through the Philippine Tourist Authority which is located at the front side of the Lantaka Hotel.
