This week, American-born and raised Filipino web celeb Christine "HappySlip" Gambito arrived in Manila at the invitation of the Department of Tourism. Known to her viewers as "HappySlip," she gained popularity on the Internet through her YouTube channel which she started in 2006 and has since become one of the website's most subscribed channels.

The videos Gambito has produced are mostly comedy sketches where she impersonates other people or plays a multitude of characters, but she also sings and plays the guitar or piano. One of the things that make her pieces special is that she produces them all on her own, from acting to filming to editing.
The web name "HappySlip" came from her mother's mispronunciation of "half slip." Gambito explains how, when she was a child, her mother used to remind her to wear a half-slip with her skirts and called the garment "hap e-slip." Today, the term is not only a piece of memory from her past, but it also expresses what she hopes for her audience as they watch her videos: that they will "slip into happiness."
Gambito was born and raised in Virginia where her Filipino parents migrated to. She got a degree in nursing, but quit that career to be able to spend more time raising her son. She has also done some acting, with small parts in movies, TV commercials, and industrial and training films.
She arrived in the country after receiving an all-expenses-paid invitation from the Department of Tourism, her first visit since her family migrated to the United States. Her trip is part of the DOT's Experience Philippines campaign for OFWs and will cover Tagbilaran, Bohol, Cebu, Boracay, Tagaytay and
Palawan.
