He is considered a veteran hip-hop and break-dancer. The dancing bug hit him when he went to New York to try out for "The Lion King" on Broadway. He came so close to getting the part of Simba, but he didn't have any dance background or experience. It was the lack of experience that prevented him from bagging to the role. The incident pushed him gain tons of experiences so he can be at par with others who have auditioned.
In 2006, he played the character of Dylan Chiu in “Akeelah and the Bee.” Dylan was pressured by his dad to win the national spelling bee. In the beginning, he's a jerk to Akeelah because he sees her as a real threat and this is his last chance to win the national spelling bee. He's afraid of the consequences of not winning but as the movie progresses he experiences a change of heart.
Afable loved the movie because he found it really inspiring. It reminded him of a personal goal that everyone has and to be the best that a person can be.
During his free time, he plays basketball, hanging out with friends, goes to the beach, goes outdoors, plays paintball, bikes, plays the guitar, sings, draws, dances, works out in the gym, and snowboards during the winter. He listens to Dave Matthews, Jack Johnson, John Mayer Foo Fighters, Angels and Airwaves, Boxcar Racer, U2, Coldplay, Goo Goo Dolls, Underoath, Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jackson, and Counting Crows.
