A young Filipino-American broke his own Guinness World Record in sport stacking last April. At the 2008 World Sports Stacking Championships held in Denver, Colorado, Steven Purugganan made a record-breaking 6.21 seconds in the Cycle Stack category, beating his previous world record of 7.23 seconds in the Individual Cycle Stack of the WSSA NY State Sport Stacking Championships last October. In the New York competition, he bested then record-holder David Wolf of Germany whose best time was 7.25 seconds.

Steven has previously beaten his first record twice: 6.65 seconds in February and 6.52 seconds in March. He also has two other world records: 2.34 seconds in the 3-6-3 individual category and 1.86 seconds in the 3-3-3 individual category.
The 10-year-old was featured in the NBC prime-time special "Guinness Book of World Records: Top 100" last January, ranking at 72nd place. He also appeared on ESPN's "Top 9 Play of the Day" segment and has been sought after by the media in his hometown of Longmeadow, Massachusetts.
Steven and older brothers Andrew and Brian, whose parents grew up in Manila, first discovered cup stacking in late 2006 while watching ESPN. It was their mother who bought them a cup stacking set. And after only 18 months, they had a certified champion in their household.
While he devotes an hour every day for training, he makes sure he has time for his studies, as well as other extracurricular activities such as basketball, soccer, baseball and golf.
Even now, Steven's star is fast rising. He has received an offer from McDonald's to star in a new TV commercial that will run in the United States. The ad was filmed this May and is set to be aired in July or August.
